Art Basel Paris 2025 attracted international attention, especially from American collectors, signalling a renewed confidence in the art market.
Major sales included Gerhard Richter’s ‘Abstraktion’ (1987) for 23 million dollars, Julie Mehretu’s ‘Charioteer’ for 11.5 million dollars, and Alberto Burri’s ‘sacco e oro’ for 4.8 million dollars.
Top tier works like a 50 million dollar Picasso also headlined the fair.
Paris now firmly positioned itself as a global art capital alongside London and New York. New events such as the independent fair 7 rue froissart and the 10th edition of Paris international (which will expand to Milan next year) reinforce the city’s growing cultural momentum.
Deposit optimism, market recovery remains uneven. Some galleries are struggling, and the expected economic ripple effect has yet to reach smaller players. However, under director Clément Crippa’s leadership, Art Basel Paris is emerging as Europe’s leading art fair surpassing even Basel sales, energy and cultural impact.
